and when she looks at you
its like your heart just skips a beat
and you wonder if she's really looking at you

A cloud of blonde hair tossed behind the tall girl as she rushed down the track field. She usually ran around town, but she had just gotten out of her last class, so she figured why not run the track for a while. She loved running, it helped clear her mind of everything was was invading her conscious. She tended to get overly stressed out and no one liked to be around her anymore. Then again, not a lot of people had the chance to be near here, since she tended to prefer her own company. She just ran as fast as she could around the track, ignoring the hooting from the boys outside the fenced off track. She did enjoy the attention from the male species, she wasn't one to just hop into bed with just anyone. Sure, most of the girls that hated her, called her a whore or a slut, they were just jealous of her. She was tall, blonde, and she has been described by many boys on campus as the perfect woman. She had a reputation to live up to as that, so why should she worry herself with the thoughts of envious girls who needed to get lives? She was more worried about her thighs and hoping her hips didn't get any wider than they were.

Ryland rushed down the track, her tennis shoes slammed hard against the track turf as she bolted. Her ponytail swayed back and forth like a pendulum as she pumped her legs as hard as she could. She pushed herself harder and harder until she felt like she couldn't go anymore. She slowed her pace down gradually until she slowed to a walking speed. She had sweat beading on her neck as she walked toward the exit of the track. She ran her hand down her neck as she walked, her legs feeling wobbly as she walked down toward her duffle bag. She winked and waved to a couple of the spectating boys before she reached her stuff. She grabbed the white towel resting there before she ran it down her neck and forehead. She wiped the sweat from her face and neck as she sat herself down beside the pillar, hiding her from sight from the others. She hummed gently to herself as she grabbed a water bottle and twisted the cap off of it before she downed half the bottle in the one swig. She felt good now, accomplished as she sat there, chugging the water.

"Come my lady, come come, my lady. You're my butterfly, sugar, baby." She sang to herself playfully as she pulled her sweaty tank top over her head, exposing her bra clad torso to the air. She was out of sight of any on lookers so she didn't mind changing her clothing quickly. She pulled her clean shirt on over her head before she reached up and pulled on the hair tie holding her massive amount of hair up from her face. She tossed it up into the air, messing it up with a giggle as she pulled the hair tie onto her wrist. She then sat there, wondering what she wanted to do with the rest of her day. She didn't have class anymore for the rest of the day, so she had to find something to do. Her thoughts meandered to that of a certain special friend of hers. But she realized that she had already exerted herself for the day, no need to give him a call. She then reached into her bag and pulled out her black berry to check the messages. As usual, she had several and she took that moment to reply to them all, maybe see if any of them wanted to spend some time with her.

I returned to you but f o u n d
My e m p t y home, the radio told
Me to s t a y, as it burned down,
I sang alone, my l o v e.

Kenneth Turner felt incredibly out of place and he usually adjusted pretty well to new places, although he never forgot the people that he was leaving behind. But now, it was almost like he was somewhere he'd never been before, although he had grown up here. But he no longer knew the people or the places, for they had either changed or relocated, or just plain disappeared all together over time. Right into thin air, it seemed. Some people didn't even remember him anymore. Kenneth Turner? Nope, sorry boy, doesn't ring a bell. Move along now, go make a name for yourself.

We might know you then.

He would be attending Craver Hill Academy on Monday, studying to become a photographer. He was almost there. He'd even had his work featured in a few galleries back in Florida, but now he had to start all over again because of his move. He'd wandered around town aimlessly, trying to look up old friends to catch up with, but to no avail. They were either out or gone for good and he had no way of finding them. He felt like a complete stranger in his own hometown, like he had to start all over again just like he'd done when they'd sent him away to a reformatory school. By them, I mean his parents. After finding out about his powers, they'd shipped him away, frightened of a son that was potentially dangerous and could no longer be trusted under their standards.

As he strolled through the city, it was hard to tell what had changed more, the people around him, or himself. But one thing still remained the same: he was waiting for someone. Ever since he left this town, he'd been waiting for her, even though he knew that he would have to be the one to come back to her. He'd tried to stay, he didn't want to go, but in the end, they'd had to say their impromptu goodbyes and swallow all of the words left unsaid as he left Craver Hill for good.

Or so it seemed. For here he was, back in the town that had shunned him with their gossip and news announcements, warning others of people like him. But Kenneth was glad to be home. His parents didn't even know he was here, he hadn't bothered to tell them, for what good would it do. They obviously didn't want anything to do with him and he wouldn't push it. He could make it on his own. He had to. Sitting down on one of the bus benches that always seemed too uncomfortable to sit on, but on the warmer days, just right to take a light nap, Kenny ran his hands through his hair before he smiled at a group of young children running about and playing games with one another. Hide and go seek, he guessed. He knew the rules well, he'd been a kid not too long ago, and this place was where his childhood had been spent. It still lived, deep inside of him, buried in his memories of dust.

Kenneth could see himself as the little pirate boy shouting orders and then his eyes caught sight of a young blonde girl. She couldn't have been more than five, but she was the splitting image of... no, it couldn't be, could it? Ryland's child? He looked around quickly, a bit stunned by his own thoughts before another blonde woman--notably not Ryland--came over to pick her up into her arms, kissing her forehead and setting her back down, taking her hand and walking away. The little girl turned her head to look at him, smiling as she lifted her hand to wave at him lighly, and he smiled back at her, doing the same. Taking in a deep breath, Kenny stood from his spot and took a bus to Craver Hill Academy. He figured that he might as well get to know the school before he attended it. It was only common sense, right? He thought so.

When he got there, Kenny reached into his pocket for a cigarette, keeping it unlit in his hands as he walked along, deciding to cut through the sports field. He wouldn't be spending too much time here, as he wasn't a jock, but he might take some pictures for the school's newspaper for the sports column. Just because he didn't play sports didn't mean that he didn't know about it. He watched it on tv sometimes. Anyway, he made his way across the field, deciding that he should sit to take a smoke. Lighting his cigarette with his powers, he flicked the cherry into the grass, but he stopped when a couple of jocks got into his way, hassling him about being new. It went on for all of about two seconds, before the coach called them over. But it got him pissed off enough to hold the cig in his mouth and throw his hands down, the fire leaving his hands and hitting someone...

and when she looks at you
its like your heart just skips a beat
and you wonder if she's really looking at you

Ryland sent a text message to a few of her friends before she sat there, looking at the campus that was visible to her. She had to admit, this was a nice place. The campus was beautiful, yet the girl still wished she could have left home. Craver Hill has been her home her entire life, and thats not an exaggaration. She was born here, and she was still here today. She had made some very close friends along the way, but only one really stuck out in her mind. Kenneth Turner. He was the Clyde to her Bonnie back in the day. He had been the first boy to ever see up her skirt, the first boy she ever loved, ever kissed, and then when his parents found out about his abilities, they shipped him off as fast as they could. It had broken the little girl's heart. The heart within her chest was still broken, so she closed herself off from men, never letting them into her heart. Ryland was often view as an evil person, but she just had issues opening up to people. Ryland ran her hands down her leg before she felt a sudden surge of heat. She looked up just as flames engulfed her.

"Catch me if you can!" Little Ryland shouted as she ran as fast as she could through the backyard at Little Kenneth's house. The two children ran around the backyard as the two of them played tag. Ryland giggled as she ran, but she didn't notice the big rock in her way as she ran right into it. She screamed and went down to the ground hard. Kenny ran over to her as she hit the ground in a sea of blonde hair.

"Ry!" The little boy called as he lifted Ryland off the ground. He looked at all the blood and he screamed lightly, looking to her tear stained face. Then, like magic, the wound disappeared and there was just a smear of blood on her leg. Kenny stared at her leg in amazement before a small smile formed on her face. Ryland sniffled as she brushed hair out of her face. She licked her lips and looked up at Kenneth with a whimper. "It's okay, Ryland...I won't tell." He said gently as the sound of his mother's call to them for lunch. When she was out of eyeshot, Kenneth lifted his palm to her and a flame formed in his hand. Ryland gasped as she looked at the glow of it.

"I have a secret too..." Kenny said and leaned toward the blonde girl. Then, their lips met in a sweet, child kiss before his mother called to them yet again.

Ryland shot up and screamed in pain, pain she still felt, wounds and the like, she didn't keep. She batted at her arms and then cried out, brushing it off herself as if it were dirt. She looked at her scorched shirt before she brushed her hair out of her face, unscathed. She was just as beautiful as before, not a burn on her entire body. Her shirt was a little singed but all and all, she looked pretty good. She snarled loudly and looked to her fire throwing assailant and gave him a horrible glare.

"You are lucky, you fuck--" She stopped, mid obscenity when she saw the face. The small amount of facial hair was a little distracting but the sweet face, the moppy hair. And a smile, brighter than anyone could have ever seen formed on her lips. She stepped around her bag and the pillar to get a look at the boy before her. Her icy blues scanned over the hairy boy that she knew had to be Kenneth. The same skinny frame, the same hair cut only a bit longer, the same soulful eyes. And he still had that cute little lopsided smile that she knew was there, even if he wasn't wearing it at that moment.

"Hells bells, Clyde!" She said, knowing only he would understand it. The Bonnie and Clyde reference was known only to him and when she looked at him, she knew that she was finally home. Ryland stepped closer to him and her hands found his face, her delicate fingers touching his aged face as a big smile rested on her flawless face. Her other arm wrapped around his neck as she stared at him, and without a thought her lips found his. The two of them have kissed each other since the day he left for reform school. The moment had been very tragic, hard to bare, yet she was forced to deal without him. Now with him back in her life, she maybe able to be the real Ryland around people. The tall blonde kissed her long lost friend full on the lips, her right hand caressing his scruffy face while the other wrapped around his neck to let her left hand run through his dark hair.

The jock guys who had been hassling him walked out of the locker room and witnessed the popular blonde full on kissing the new guy. All of them stood there, staring at them with wide eyes and open mouths. Completely shocked at the scene before them as the beauty kissed him with happiness and a giggle leaving her throat.

Kenneth was pissed off, but didn't think that he'd done anything wrong, not until he felt his palm heat up and abruptly noticed that a jolt of flame had left his hand and spiraled right into an unsuspecting young blonde woman. He didn't even look at her face at first, as he was too preoccupied running towards her, her small body engulfed in his own creation. He heard her screams in pain, the guilt radiating through him like the blood pumping through his veins as he hovered over her, watching in amazement as she just brushed it off of herself, no harm done. Only one person that he'd ever known could do that... but it couldn't be her, could it? It would be too much of a coincidence. Apologizing continually as he extended his hand out to her to help her up on to her feet, his dark brown eyes slowly moved up to meet her eyes.

He moved back a few steps so that she could collect herself, ignoring her harsh words as he stared back into the eyes that he would know anywhere. She looked a little different now, curvier in places and with longer hair, but the smile was the same. That thousand watt smile that made even a man resort to feeling weak at the knees. She was quite simply beautiful. And because her bright smile was contagious, he soon found himself giving her that lopsided smile that she knew so well, some of his pearly whites showing through his slightly parted lips.

"Hells bells, Bonnie!" Kenneth responded with just as much vigor, a sudden whirlwind of excitement running through him as the possibility of a future of more nicknames made itself known to him. He felt her draw nearer, the warmth of her body probably not as warm as his cheeks from the prior embarrassment of letting his anger get the best of him, as he felt her arm around his neck. He remembered a moment like this, only that they were much younger and didn't know the significance. He didn't even think twice as her lips found his, kissing her back as his hand rested on her lower back, simply enjoying the spontaneous moment. He'd missed her and, of course, her lips. It was hard not to, she had been everything he thought about since he went off to school. She was the reason why he did so well, because he wanted to get out as soon as possible to come and look for her. His first love.

And what do you know, she had found him, instead of the other way around.

Kenneth knew what a makeout session was, so he didn't let himself lose control, but his emotions were scattered. They were best friends, the best kind that ever existed, but he knew that things had changed. Did she have another man in her life now? He didn't think so, unless she was just doing this in the spur of the moment. She looked like one of the unattainable girls, the ones that didn't give a guy the time of day, and here she was all over him. He felt her fingers running through his hair, a very nice sensation, he had to say, and both hands found her waist. He'd forgotten what she tasted like, but not her smell.

It might be masked now by perfume, for she wasn't a little girl anymore, but it was still there.

He didn't notice the jock guys at all. He was blocking them out, just concentrating on the girl infront of him. He gave as much as she did, his eyes closed to show that he was enjoying the moment with a grin lining his lips, his lips curving more sharply as he felt the vibration of her giggle against his lips. His whole body felt like it was on fire, as if he would spontaneously combust, and although Ryland wouldn't be hurt by it, he willed himself not to. It had happened before though, but only in his dreams. Dreams that he would never tell a soul, not even his best friend, for it would make anyone blush.

It was getting harder to keep going, didn't she need air? Pssh, who needs air, just kiss the girl, Turner, he thought to himself. As his hand ran through her silky blonde locks, so as to record the feeling in his memory, he then smoothed her hair back out of her face as he slowly pulled away. His dark brown eyes opened to look into hers, the grin softening into a smile as he stared at her. "I missed you, Ry," Kenny said as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a hug, before giving her some space. But he was careful not to blink, for she might just disappear. "I'm sorry about before with the... you know. Are you okay?" He looked her over for any remaining wounds, not sure if her powers had advanced or gotten weaker over the years.

and when she looks at you

Kenneth Bryce Turner, the one boy who held her heart forever was back in town now. The happiness within the tall blonde was hard to contain. What an entrance, for the record. Lighting her on fire, great ice breaker. It was like things were when they were younger. Years have passed now, and boy did he look good. He had a major Johnny Depp thing going for him and she felt special that she was the one who shared something with him that no one could ever know. They were each other's first ever love, and that was something no one could touch. It felt good to have something like that in your life, and for Ryland, it was the most important thing to her. Friendships came and went, men weren't permanent, but her relationship with Kenny would never waver, never change.

Ryland smiled against Kenneth's lips before their kiss took full form when he kissed her back. He was an amazing kisser, she decided when his hands held her tightly to him. They had been young when they first kissed, but now things were different. They were both much older now, and boy he had her head spinning. He smelled so good, his lips tasted amazing, he was just sweeping her off her feet and he's been back in her life for two seconds. The boy was good and she missed him so much. She's made out before, but nothing compared to this. She inhaled sharply, not wanting to break the kiss for anything in the world. She missed him and she was going to show him how much she had missed him.

The kiss didn't cease as she wrapped both of her arms around his neck, her fingers sliding through his hair with her body pressing against his. She felt happier in this moment than ever before. Lately, she's been clubbing, flirting with guys, then going home alone. She hasn't dated much, which was why she was so unattainable to the boys on campus. Maybe she had been subconsciously as well as consciously been waiting for Kenneth's return to her. He had made a promise to her before he left, that he would come back for her. She had held onto that for so long, and her holding wasn't wasted. Better late then never she always thought. She felt his fingers sliding through her blonde locks and it felt good. She hasn't been held like this by another guy in a long time. Too long, but it hadn't felt this nice before. He had a strength about him now that was very unexpected. He had been so lanky as a kid, but now he wasn't so boyish anymore. He still had that boyish charm, but he was very much the man now.

She felt his hands smooth her hair out of her face before he broke the kiss. She was sad the kiss ended, but she still smiled bright at Kenneth, licking her lips gently before he said he missed her. God she missed him too as he pulled her into his arms gently. She hugged him back before they both stood before each other with a giggle. The boy could never make her unhappy, he was always able to put a smile on her face. She then laughed when he asked if she was okay, thanks to his little fire play.

"I'm fine. Remember me, the invulnerable chick? You are in the clear." She said before she giggled and hugged him again, not wanting to be too far away from him now. Her lips were close to his ear before she spoke up again. "I missed you too, Kenny." She said softly, before she slowly pulled away from him. She was thrilled that he was finally back home, she couldn't ask for a better moment than this. She just hoped it was for good this time and not just some horrible joke against her. She looked up at him with a heavy, yet happy sigh as she looked into his eyes.

"God, it's great to see you."

The gate was locked, so I jumped it,
And I let you in, and you stood at
Your door, with your hands on my
Waist, and you kissed me like
You meant it and I knew...

Kenneth hadn't intended to set his childhood friend on fire; in fact, he hadn't intended to use his powers in public at all. But an unprovoked confrontation from some guys who thought themselves better than him only because of the size of their ego wasn't something he took lightly. He wasn't exactly a hostile guy, nor egotistical, but if the situation called for it... well, sometimes things just happened. He wasn't worried at all about that situation though, that was the past, and right now he was too focused on the present with Ryland, trying to decipher between his memories and reality. Ryland had been the first girl that he ever set his sights upon, although he used to show his affections in other ways, like by pulling her hair and chasing after her when they were kids, but as he grew older, he found that he couldn't get her out of his head or another place in his chest.

It was nice to have something permanent in his life, something stable that he knew wouldn't disappear on him when things got bad. Kissing her like he did right now felt completely natural, as if he had been doing this his whole life. This wasn't the first time he had ever kissed a girl, of course, but whenever it was with her, he actually meant it. With other girls prior it was just a game of a cat and mouse. With Ryland, it was a sincere addiction that he couldn't kick, nor did he want to. It was only one kiss, one that lasted more than usual, but it was enough to show him the gates to that special place they often called cloud nine. She knew what she was doing, she was no rookie either, which made him grin against her lips.

Kenneth could see passed her smile and tell that she wasn't too pleased about him breaking the kiss, and in all honestly, all he wanted to do right now was kiss her again. But he had just gotten back in town and he'd already set her on fire, kissed her, and admitted that he'd missed her. It was the best first day of anything that he'd ever had. He felt her hugging him back, before they stood before each other, the height difference alot more obvious now. It wasn't too much, but enough to show that they weren't kids anymore, back when they had been pretty much the same height. He had changed quite a bit, and so had she, but there was still this lingering sense of familiarity that lingered between them, never letting them get uncomfortable as their gazes met.

The young brown-haired pyro found his lips curling into a soft, but still somewhat lopsided, almost devious smile as he looked back at her when she said that she was fine. "Right, sorry, I forgot about that," he said with a firm nod of his head. "How's your life as Superwoman faring? Saved any foolish townies yet from their ultimate doom?" He was only kidding, he used to call her Superwoman back when they were kids. It was a good tease, one that made her jump at him with super tickling powers, but still made her feel good. Superwoman was important, after all, not to mention beautiful. Extremely beautiful. Okay, okay, hot. He chuckled when he heard her contagious laugh, feeling her arms around him again before she pulled away just enough.

Kenny smiled when she said that she missed him too, trying to level it out so that it didn't seem like a smirk. He always used to play the villian whenever they played tag. She would be Superwoman and he would be some guy with an evil laugh that really sounded more like a mischievous chuckle. He never could pull off pure evil. He snapped out of his nostalgic thoughts, a battle about who had been what, when she spoke again. He felt her gaze on him and he met it with confidence and hope. Hope that this would be different, that he wouldn't have to come back for her, because he would never leave. But you never know where life will take you. "It's nice to be back," he agreed, getting a bit excited now and feeling goosebumps on his skin as he reached up to rub the back of his neck.

"But everything has changed so much, I think I might have to ask you for a favor... would you mind being my tour guide? I mean, if you're not too busy or anything?" he said, knowing that it sounded a bit silly, but it would serve as an excuse to stay with her and get to know her again, in a sense.
